Thanks to Emyrizka’s lovely post and pictures here I will add Plaosan Lor to the list of places in Java I’d like to visit one day.

For a bit more on the recent history of the temple complex see the Jakarta Post story here, while a more academic interpretation of the temple’s history can be found here.

As the latter text illustrates, Plaosan Lor represents the truly localised nature of Central Javanese art, which is quite unique in Southeast Asia, while the complex itself is from the later era of temple constructions under the Kings of the Sailendra dynasty (with the better known Borobodur from the earlier era).
